A HELP, A WARNING

The clues to guide us are very few indeed: perhaps the jottings and sketches of architects and artists, put down in the heat of imagining a form or the manuscript brouillons of poets and musicians, crisscrossed with erasures and corrections, are the hazy coastlines of this dark continent of the "now," where the impress of the future is received by the past.

Utopia Always Reappears, no matter how often it dissolves and disappears in what it has produced. It stays alive underground. It is always old and new. While it is underground, it creates a complex unity of memories, emotions, and desires.

Recollection thus is not remembrance of a Golden Past(which never existed), of childhood innocence, primitive man, etc. Recollection as epistemological faculty rather is synthesis, reassembling the bits and fragments which can be found in the distorted humanity and distorted nature.

The first rule for understanding the human condition is that humans live in a second-hand world.

We need history, but our need for it differs from that of the jaded idlers in the garden of knowledge.

The task is to extrapolate the elements of the nonsynchronous contradiction which are capable of antipathy and transformation.
