In April 1879, a stone, which he will call his "stumbling block" causes him to fall on the way to his delivery route and makes him transpose his dream into reality. 

is a French postman famous for having spent 33 years of his life building a monument that he called the “  Ideal Palace  ”.

He also spent eight more years building his own tomb .

The artist Niki de Saint Phalle, a great admirer of the postman, sent a letter to the sculptor Jean Tinguely, worded as follows:
"I was telling you about Gaudi and Postman Cheval, whom I had just discovered and whom had made my heroes: they represented the beauty of man, alone in his madness, without any intermediary, without museums, without galleries. I was provoking you by telling you that Postman Cheval was a much greater sculptor than you..."
